BBCHS is in the 3rd year of the PEP Grant

Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School has been awarded the Carol M. White Education for Progress Grant (PEP Grant) by the United States Department of Education Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools. The federal competitive grant will allow BBCHS to expand and improve state mandated physical education programs for students. The total amount for the three-year project is $475, 416. The District will receive $388,245 or 82% of project funding from the Department of Education to implement Active + Healthy = Forever Fit. Additional funding of $87,171 or 18% of program costs will be provided by in-kind contributions from Riverside Health Care, O.A.K. Orthopedic Associates, Olivet Nazarene University and BBCHS. The goal of the program is to provide BBCHS students with quality physical education programs taught by teachers who use research-based strategies and modern technologies to focus on lifelong health, fitness and wellness. Students will participate in a diversified program of physical activities designed to meet various needs. The grant will refocus programs from traditional physical education activities to one of life long fitness where students will increase their wellness levels through personalized fitness plans and goal setting.

In three years, BBCHS has revamped it's PE curriculum to address our fitness equipment needs, advance with technology needs, and redesign our curriculum to address some modern interests.   Our curriculum is now 50% based on physical fitness activities and 50% sport and recreational activities.  We have added new junior-senior level classes such as Rack Pack, X Games, Adventure Education, Rhythms, Sport Education and Aquatic Leadership.

With the use of heart rate monitors, treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, Lifetime Fitness weight training machines, and GPS units we have created a new learning environment for our students.  Our students have been given an amazing opportunity to spark new interests in their own level of fitness as well as peak new interests in nontraditional ways to be active.
