Dear Diary

Write at least five entries from Adam's diary that would fit within the action of the book.  Be sure to portray his emotional state at each chosen time.  Include mentions of other characters and how Adam feels about each one.  Be sure you label each entry with a date and some indicator of where he is while he is writing.

Piles of Paperwork

Prepare at least five daily reports from Mr. Grey, or Brint, to his supervisors.  Use headings and some technical jargon to make them appear authentic. Be sure they are dated.  You may focus on both Adam and his parents.  Do not merely summarize what has happened, but include the character's thoughts and recommendations for future actions.

Travelogue

On posterboard, create an illustrated timeline of Adam's "travels".  Include pictures and captions of major incidents.  Pictures can be original drawings or cut from magazines.  You may include maps if you wish.  Monument is based on Leominster, Massachussetts.  Rutterburg is completely fictional.

Collage

On posterboard, create a collage that illustrates the novel.  Choose pictures and words from magazines that illustrate the events, themes, and atmosphere of the novel.  Also, write a paragraph at least 100 words long explaining your choices.

The X-Files and/or

Dark Angel Comparison

If you are already a fan of either show, you may write a comparison/contrast paper, at least three paragraphs long.  You must be well versed in either show.  Watching only one episode will not help you.  If you choose The X-Files, be sure that you have watched the show for more than one season.  You may focus on either show or discuss both of them.  Address at least three of following questions in your paper.
    • How does the issue of trust affect the main characters of the shows and the book?
    • Mulder and Scully trust Skinner and the Lone Gunmen.  Max trusts Logan.  Is there anyone Adam can trust?  How does this relationship, or the lack of one, compare to the previously mentioned relationships?
    • How are all the characters at the mercy of the government?  How do they choose to deal with this fact?  Do any of the television characters make similar choices to Adam's?
    • All of the characters are on the run, in various ways.  How does this affects their lives?
    • Why are the shows and the book popular?  What is it about the ideas of escape, conspiracy, and a too powerful government that is appealing?

Your paper must meet the regular writing standards.
