Grading Scale
Every assignment earns points, generally 5-50 for homework, 10 for quizzes, and 100 for tests.  Your grade is determined by the percentage of the total points you have earned.

90-100  A
80-89    B
70-79    C
60-69    D
0-59     F

Writing Standards
Be sure to use correct spelling and grammar.  Be especially careful to get rid of any fragments or run-ons.  Write on only one side of the page, leaving a one inch margin all the way around.  A neat paper has the following elements.

           Handwritten                                                       Typed

written in blue or black ink typed in a font no smaller than 12 points
written in cursive typed in a standard font (no script)
no fuzzy edges from a spiral notebook left-justified (like this page)

The Library of Congress  The ultimate library, it is the world's largest.  Their online resources are impressive, providing you with lots of images and information.  This site is great for doing background research.

Bartleby  Did you leave your book at school?  Try finding your assignment online.  Bartleby, named after a Herman Melville character, is a collection of classic works (mostly before 1925).   It doesn't have everything, but it does have a bunch of short stories and poems.

  My favorite search engine can find almost anything.  Type in an author, a title, a quote or anything else you need and you will probably find it.

Poetry Daily  A great stress reliever, this site features a new poet and poem every day.  You can also search the archives for the features of the past year.

Artcyclopedia   If you're looking for a specific piece of fine art, or just want to browse an artist's work, this is a fantastic place to look.
